BL Water Polo is one of Barts and The London’s largest mixed clubs offering training sessions, matches and socials for everyone. As Association Cup winners 2021-22 and BLSA Club of the Year in 2019-2020, BL Water Polo provides some of the best fitness and skill sessions available, as well as our very friendly social side to the club. Whether you have played Water Polo before or whether you are a complete beginner, our training sessions are tailored for all abilities and start with the basics so everyone can try out the sport. We are a competitive club but we have a great mix of being competitive whilst being very supportive to new players and everyone can play in matches! Throughout the year we offer 3-4 training sessions a week, weekly socials, a National and International Tour, Alumni events and the infamous Barts and The London Pub Crawl! We train 2-3x a week. This consists of 2 sessions in the pool and 1 fitness session. This year our training times are as follows:

Thursday 8:00-9:30pm pool session - Poplar Baths Leisure Centre

Saturday 3:00-4:30pm pool session - Poplar Baths Leisure Centre

Equipment needed: Just a swimming costume and a towel! (Goggles and shampoo optional)

We have 4 teams! We have a Men’s and Women’s team which both compete in BUCS. We also have 2 mixed teams of equal ability which play in the London league (LUSL), called Team Barts and Team London. All teams are very welcoming and supportive! Every member of the club can play in matches, we have no formal selection process for teams so everyone gets to play!

Players will be allocated to a Men’s or Women’s team and also a mixed team. In addition to league matches we also have a BUCS cup which means the further we progress, the more matches we have! We have matches throughout first and second term and depending on fixtures these can be every week or every 2 weeks. Our matches are played at Poplar Baths Leisure Centre if they are home matches or we travel to away to teams in London, Essex, Southampton and Surrey.

We do not have trials!! Everyone is welcome on our teams and many of our players had never played Water Polo before! At the taster session and for the first few sessions we go through the basics and run practice matches so everyone can get a feel for the sport! With so many of the team being novices when they came to Uni, they know exactly how it feels to join the sport new and are very willing to help! We also have some very experienced members and a coach who will teach you everything you need to know!

We run weekly social events attending ‘Tables’ at The Griff (our student union) which is a great way to meet all the club! We sometimes have events before Tables such as cocktails, curries and various fun activities. We also run special events throughout the year such as our annual Christmas Dinner and the infamous Barts to the London pub crawl!

If you do not fancy playing water polo, we have a social membership where you can be fully involved with the club, attend matches to support our teams and attend all of the social events! We would of course love you to try out the sport but our club is much more than that!
