LUSL London vs Kings - 02/02/2023 (H)

BLWP 2 - 24 Kings

On Thursday, The London faced Kings at home in Poplar. With a great team of nine, we were ready to get in that pool!

We went into the game with confidence and motivation to play the best we could. Dustbin showed some great determination whilst marking a speedy opposition, never shying away from a fight for the ball. Barney provided great defence in pit D, fending off some fierce Kings players. Smaragda sped up and down the wing, never letting her player out of sight.

The second quarter had some spice to it. The London received one counter attack after another, with plenty of great attempts at scoring. Miracle flow was a machine in this game, really utilising the space and time she had to grab the ball in a missed opposition’s shot. Harry, the part time footballer/WP goalie, played the whole game out field for the first time in a while. This was a fabulous shift from Chundy, who put up some great fights for the ball and didn’t lose his player. The defence from The London in this quarter was excellent, really boosting our confidence in the game.

After some communication on tactics and plenty more encouragement all round, we were ready to enter the third quarter. Tadpole Martha found some great space to win the ball, speeding around her player. Tadpole Molly put in a great shift, staying with her her player on the wing and really getting into the game. Tadpole Noah got into a perfect position in pit A, and managed to slam the ball and score our first goal of the match! Happy faces all round after that one.

Going into the final quarter, we gave it all we could. Dustbin grabbed the ball and was inching ever closer to the goal, until he decided to smash it into the back of the net, winning us another point on the scoreboard. We kept pushing through this quarter, and managed to keep quite a bit of possession of the ball.

Overall, this intense game was filled with some solid defence work and plenty of encouragement around the team. Everyone put in a fabulous shift, and the goals we scored were celebrated to the max. Final score was 24-2 to Kings.

Player of the match goes to Mark for keeping great possession of the ball and scoring a speedy shot from a distance, followed by a very passionate celebration for The London!
